F&MClinic2016

When Cavalia—the amazing equestrian-themed spectacular that has now toured North America for over a decade—first dazzled audiences in 2003, few people knew of Frédéric Pignon and Magali Delgado. But the whole world was soon abuzz with talk of the display these two remarkable individuals and their unparalleled cast of beautiful horses provided their audience.

“With his wife Magali and her sister Estelle, Pignon is the key to Cavalia,” said Jacki Lyden on NPR’s “All Things Considered.”

“Pignon engages in a scene of blissful play with three beautiful white stallions…the impression is one of an intense bond between horses and man—the most emotionally charged moment of the show,” raved Don Shirley in the Los Angeles Times.

“I believe that Frederic Pignon and Magali Delgado are two of the finest horsemen in the history of horsemanship,” affirms renowned behaviorist, trainer, and founder of the Tellington Method Linda Tellington-Jones.

Now, for the FIRST TIME EVER, Frédéric Pignon and Magali Delgado, authors of GALLOP TO FREEDOM and BUILDING A LIFE TOGETHER—YOU AND YOUR HORSE, are coming to the US to teach their methods and share their ideals, and YOU can join them!

Teskey's Saddle Shop is internationally known for its incredible selection of Western saddles and equipment.

Teskey’s Saddle Shop is internationally known for its incredible selection of Western saddles and equipment.

We got to Teskey’s just past the eight o’clock hour…the doors were open but the parking lot had yet to be filled with customers. And yes, it is all everyone promised it would be: more Western saddles in more colors, shapes, styles, and patterns than I’ve ever seen under one roof. Not to mention the boot section! It was definitely good shopping. And, Melinda Folse, author of the bestselling THE SMART WOMAN’S GUIDE TO MIDLIFE HORSES met up with us for a farewell coffee and chat about her NEXT BOOK!! Stay tuned to find out what that might be…

Teskey’s had a really terrific book and DVD section, with a really nice selection of titles on different subjects, from riding, training, and competing, to cooking, history, and Western lifestyle. We’d like to give a shout-out to a such a great store with friendly staff and an interest in selling educational books to those who love horses and live the Western life. We hope we get to visit again really soon!

From there, it was a flat-out race to the airport (because who can leave a tack shop at the exact time planned??) We dodged downtown construction and GPS pitfalls just agilely enough to make our flight, so now here we are, in West Palm Beach, Florida. Tomorrow, we’re headed to the Palm Beach Dressage Derby and we’ll be sure to share photos and news from the event.

We started the day in the Stockyards, then headed for Stephenville.

We started the day in the Stockyards, then headed for Stephenville.

This morning we set out to wander the Stockyards a bit before grabbing a terrific breakfast that involved fresh tortillas, darned good chorizo, and a lot of cheese (not to mention the biscuit that came gratis with the coffee!) at Esperanza’s on North Main Street in Fort Worth. Then, it was into the rental car for the drive out the Stephenville, which we had planned to put us right by the famous Teskey’s Saddle Shop in Weatherford (the cutting horse capital of the world), but sadly our GPS chose a different route, convincing us that old-fashioned maps and the powers of reasoning trump technology any day (at least when shopping for horse stuff is involved).

Oh well, we’re going BACK to Forth Worth tomorrow, a different way…and Teskey’s will be in the picture this time.

We had a great lunch at the Hard 8 Pit BBQ with Pam DeFazio and Rachelle Wilhelm from Downunder Horsemanship (it sounds like all we are doing in Texas is eating, doesn’t it?) and had a chance to visit with TSB author Clinton Anderson at his offices before he leaves for his Walkabout Tour stop in Tampa, Florida.

We topped the day off by meeting up with Kayla Starnes, author of TEAM ROPING 101, endorsed by the USTRC, and it was great to talk horses, training, and Texas living with a native.

Hope to swing through the Cowgirl Museum tomorrow before we hit the skies and head for Florida!

The legendary Stockyards Hotel in Fort Worth.

The legendary Stockyards Hotel in Fort Worth.

We arrived in Dallas/Ft. Worth today and had the distinct pleasure of checking out the Ft. Worth Stockyards and checking in to the legendary Stockyards Hotel, which once housed THE Bonnie and Clyde.

The Stockyards Hotel, open since 1907, is beautiful, well furnished, and we enjoyed both a belly-up to the bar astride saddles and a darned good steak at the H3 Ranch restaurant rather later in the evening. In the end, we discovered that not only does the hotel feature very large margaritas and unique taxidermy, but also paranormal activity!

Yes, this hotel is supposedly HAUNTED. Luckily, according to my last-minute online research, “ghosts” have been experienced in the elevator, on the third floor, and in Room 218…the room just down the hall…but not in ours…

After a long day of travel we are off to TRY to sleep! Check in with us tomorrow here, on FB and Twitter, and follow horseandriderbooks on Instagram for more news and a report on any overnight paranormal experiences!

If you are planning your weekend of horses, music, and magic at Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, TX June 1–3, 2012, be sure to make time to visit two of our bestselling authors! Melinda Folse, author of THE SMART WOMAN’S GUIDE TO MIDLIFE HORSES, and Kayla Starnes, author of TEAM ROPING 101 will both be on hand, talking horses and signing their books.

Melinda Folse and THE SMART WOMAN’S GUIDE TO MIDLIFE HORSES can be found at Booth #532/530, where she’ll also be talking about her new blog for DiscoverHorses.com. Melinda will be giving presentations over the weekend–she’s invited a few of the women featured in her book to stop by and share more of their stories from very different perspectives on the “Midlife Horse Adventure.” Discussion will open up for audience questions and encouragement (possibly in the form of chocolate!) in order to build and emphasize awareness of the wonderful the community we all share when we love and ride horses.

Kayla Starnes will be in the USTRC booth with her book TEAM ROPING 101. The public is invited to try roping a Hot Heels in the booth all three days, and  an instructor will be on hand to guide novices and answer questions.

Highlights of the three-day equine exposition and music festival include:

• More than 100 clinics, demonstrations and seminars in many disciplines in four venues led by expert presenters such as Craig Cameron and Gina Miles.

• Five major Coliseum shows starring 12-time Grammy-winner Emmylou Harris and five-time Grammy-winner Marty Stuart.
